Căldura extremă, alimentată de vântul puternic, a declanşat incendii în mai multe zone din centrul şi nordul Portugaliei.
Echipe de pompieri din Franţa, Spania, Italia şi Grecia au ajuns în Portugalia pentru a sprijini eforturile împotriva incendiului.
Portugalia este extrem de predispusă la incendii de vegetaţie. În 2017, cel mai grav incendiu de acest fel a ucis 120 de oameni.
